Our project proposes preserving and celebrating the most significant portions of the High Line. Approaching the site from the cultural centers to the south, the curve of the High Line at 30th Street makes a natural entrance to the Kunsthalle and open space below. The railing along the northern edge of the High Line will be removed in portions, allowing for an integrated connection and compliment to the adjacent public spaces, restaurants, stores and community facilities. Celebrating the terminus of the High Line will be an architecturally distinctive connection to Hudson River Park. Inherent to this strategy is the preservation and reuse of the space underneath the elevated High Line structure, which will be animated by storefront retail, reinforcing the path towards the Hudson River and creating an additional pedestrian amenity at ground level.
